What this calculator does

A bedtime calculator subtracts your target sleep duration and time to fall asleep from your planned wake-up time to suggest when to get into bed. It is a planning estimate, not a clinical target.

Formula

Bedtime = Wake time − Sleep duration − Sleep latency

Worked example

Wake at 6:30 AM, sleep target 8 h, latency 15 min → get into bed by 10:15 PM.

Assumptions

  • You are following a single-block nighttime sleep schedule.
  • Target duration reflects your personal need.

Limitations

  • Individual sleep needs vary by age, genetics, health and workload.
  • Not a substitute for advice from a health professional.

Frequently asked questions

How much sleep do adults need?

Most adults do well with 7–9 hours of sleep per night; some healthy adults consistently need slightly more or less.

Should I use the same bedtime every night?

A consistent bedtime and wake-up time strongly supports your circadian rhythm and daytime energy.
